After reading a very inspirational article by Jeff Starr called Lessons Learned After 5 Years of Blogging. I have gained insight that success isn’t reached with joining the mainstream bloggers and sellers online and write diluted topics about what we “think” we ought to be writing about. True inspiration thrives from deep within our creative souls, and we would be committing a great disservice to the online community by not sharing our creative prowess with the rest of the world. By being a giver success will naturally come.

So it seems now that I will begin this blog by writing about what purely satiates my design desires while others simply click, nod, and move on. As MindtoMedium gains valuable viewers, perhaps I will then write about what works for the community of followers, but still keep it real with topics I get to vent about.

True, I may write about many topics tangible to mainstream, but it will always be geared towards something new that will enrich the lives of real design nerds. It is my quest to nurture the creative soul and give more of my experiences with the visual world. Thanks for reading. Are you there? Good.

Artists and designers alike are wondering where the realm of design is heading towards. Most importantly, what would we call this new art movement? Post-post modern design? It is evident that there is a minimalistic stronghold on current trends forming around us. It seems that typography, logo marks, and motifs are being distilled down to their purest essence.

Pepsi audaciously changed their logo with little warning and boldly accomplished what most soda pop designers could only dream of. They stripped away their “pop” feel and loud Generation-X centric graphics and garnished their cans with the simplest new-fashioned logo mark accompanied by a minimalistic sans-serif typeface that subtly winks at the predecessor Pepsi logo. Consistently genius, in my opinion.

But could we designers give all the credit to the sugar water super giant? Did Pepsi really set the stage for a new minimalistic design movement? Or did they revolutionize how consumers see their products? Perhaps. However, with more scrutiny we can see where it all may have begun.

It makes sense that once a company feels it begins to plateau in growth they start to ponder their place in the commerce world. it’s no wonder that they seek a solution to their proclaimed modernity by cleaning up their look. They may seek Art Deco style geometric typefaces and design motifs give a sense of structure and balance and suggest a cunning look forward. This becomes a contrast to the herd.
